Day 2 – Lectio: Reading the Word
The first step is Lectio, sacred reading. It means receiving the text slowly, with reverence. We are not trying to dissect the meaning—we are listening for the voice of God.
Choose a short passage. Read it aloud, gently. Pause. Then read it again. Let it enter you like food, like water. Allow yourself to be drawn to a word, a sentence, an image. You are not trying to find it—it will find you.
There is no pressure to “understand” everything. The Word of God is alive and active. It works on us even when we don’t realize it.
Monastics often say, “Read until your heart is touched.” When something stirs, stop. Let it rest with you.
