Saint Polycarp, a disciple of Saint John the Evangelist and bishop of Smyrna, bridged the age of the apostles and the early Church. Facing heresy, persecution, and doctrinal disputes, he remained faithful by imitating Christ’s life with courage, clarity, and charity. Firm against false teaching yet respectful amid Christian disagreements, he embodied unity and holiness. During persecution, Polycarp calmly accepted martyrdom at age eighty-six, praying for the entire Church.
